Lullaby song

Part of being a good parent, I think, is your willingness to one day let go. Children start to demand their independence, in small ways, as soon as they can walk and talk. It's a hard thing to do. So this song is an acknowledgement of the inevitability of cutting the strings one day, while appreciating the present closeness and interdependability between parent and child while they are so young.
Little songbird perched on a branch
test your wings against the wind
one day you’ll let go, and you will fly
then you’ll know the strength in them

never you worry
this tree will be here
whenever you need to fly home
but for the moment
just close your eyes
I’ll sing you this lullaby song
I’ll sing you this lullaby song

little songbird perched in your tree
dare your wings to touch the sky
your heart is willing, your body is small
but one day you will fly, you will fly

never you worry
this tree will be here
whenever you need to come home
but for the moment
just close your eyes
I’ll sing you this lullaby song
I’ll sing you this lullaby song
